Ας ερχόσουν για λίγο, J'attendrai, Night and Day...
Three cities, three languages, three cultures meet at the crossroads of a single musical tradition: popular, urban music of the mid-20th century. Whether known as ρετρό, chansons or standards, these are melodies that have been loved for generations, classics that musicians love to work rework.
Of Greek and English origins, Marina Petsali was a guest singer at some of the very successful Retro Greek Music concerts at Art Base. Now she and French musician Yannick Jacquet set out to put that repertoire in context. They propose an eclectic programme of familiar and less-familiar songs, spanning the 1920ies to the 1950ies and exploring the similarities and differences of the Greek retro tradition and other music of the same period.
Γύρισε, Que reste-t-il de nos amours, Body and Soul...
It is a musical journey that combines pieces by Sougioul, Vellas, Attic and other Greek composers, with French and American hits of the same period. We revisit the world of Broadway, of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers, but also that of Charles Trenet, Jean Sablon and Sidney Bechet. As an American living in Paris, Bechet literally bridged the Atlantic with his music. For his compositions, as well as some of the other pieces, Marina and Yannick will be joined by wonderful clarinetist Andris Amantovs.
