FR : Front 242 est le fondateur, en 1981, du mouvement Electric Body Music, et le véritable chaînon manquant entre la mouvance industrielle et la techno. Une de leurs innovations est d'avoir créé une forme d'onde particulière pour chaque note, plutôt que d'utiliser celles de leurs synthés. Le groupe belge gagne une dimension internationale avec l'album Official Version en 1987. L'année suivante sort "Front by Front" dont est issu Headhunter, leur titre le plus célèbre, qui restera un an en tête des charts alternatifs aux USA, et qui subira un nombre impressionnant de remix.

Avec Tyranny For You, en 1991, Front 242 se rapproche de la techno avec un son plus complexe. Celui de leurs albums Up Evil et Off, en 1993, sonne, plus encore, techno industrielle.

Séparé en 1993, le groupe se reforme en 1997 pour quelques concerts avec de nouvelles versions de leurs morceaux. Le succès de ceux-ci les conduit à pérenniser leur retour. En 2003, 10 ans après leur dernier album studio, sort l'album Pulse, un retour aux sources de l'électronique. En 2004 le DVD Catch The Men montre le "spectacle total" de leurs concerts. Fin 2005, ils repartent pour leur première véritable tournée depuis 12 ans et jouent 20 concerts aux USA. Ils fêtent leur 25e anniversaire en mars 2006 avec deux concerts à l'Ancienne Belgique à Bruxelles.

Front 242 a été cités par U2, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, et des centaines d'autres groupes comme une source d'inspiration majeure. Ils ont été les pionniers d'une nouvelle scène, en abordant la musique, l'image et les prestations sur scène comme une entité unique. En concert, son, image, lumière et chorégraphie dégagent une énergie spectaculaire.

In 2004 the "Catch The Men" DVD shows the "total performance" of their concerts. In late 2005, they take the road for their first real tour for 12 years and play 20 concerts in the United States. They are celebrating their 25th anniversary in March 2006 with two concerts at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
