Asteris Varveris anime à Bruxelles un cycle d'ateliers de rebetiko en ensemble : répertoire des années 1920-1950, ornementations, modes et rythmes, tous instruments bienvenus.

During this workshop cycle we will learn and perform songs and repertoire from the Rebetiko era starting from the 1920 until 1950. Our basic goal will be to create an ensemble, in which we will learn and perform repertoire of this genre and time.
Also we will analyze and decode the role of each instrument, and elements
such as ornamentations, harmonic concepts, technical aspects and stylistic elements which characterize the idiom, thus diving deeper in Rebetiko music. Moreover, we will analyze musical aspects lije modes ( modal scales ) and the way those are used in this genre, as well as rhythms and rhythm formations.
Last but not least, each participant will receive individual advices regarding technical, musical and interpretating aspects. All instruments and levels are welcome, so feel free to bring your instrument and join!
About Asteris Varveris:
Asteris Varveris is a Greek musician, composer and educator. He plays guitar and laouto. His association with Rebetiko started when he was young, given that music runs in his family and his father performs the same music. He completed his bachelor’s exam at the University of Macedonia in the department of Greek traditional music, where he also studied Rebetiko music. In accordance with his studies Asteris performed this music in Greece and abroad with a great diversity of bands and musicians. After his bachelor’s studies Asteris completed the Master program of Codarts, University of the Arts in Rotterdam. During his Master studies Asteris broadened his perspective of the Eastern Mediterranean music and tradition.
He currently lives, performs and teaches in Rotterdam.
