ELINA SKARPATHIOTI & NICOLAS MIQUEA- Nueva Canción & Political songs from Greece
The interest to address political issues through music was the motive for Elina Skarpathioti from Greece and Nicolás Miquea from Chile to get together. Having already developed their own projects with this theme, the two artists met in Berlin earlier this year and started exploring the common ground between the political repertoires of each other’s cultural heritage. They will perform a program of Nueva Canción (a genre which started in Chile and Argentina and became prominent all over Latin America, Cuba and the Iberian Peninsula by the end of the ’60s), as well as political songs from Greece from that same era.
Their aim is to present this highly artistic repertoire, sometimes introvert and sometimes more outspoken, with the affinities between the music and poetry of Latin America and Greece, and even bring up the similarities
of the political struggles of these people then and now.
