GEORGIA DAGAKI- CRETA
CD-PRESENTATION ‘PHOBIE’
At 16, Georgia Dagaki was already a renowned representative of the Cretan folk music scene, one of the few women who have mastered the lyra, a predominanty male instrument. Having the traditional music of Crete as a heritage and accompanied by her lyra, she starts exploring contemporary Greek music paths. She is constantly experimenting with various sounds, from contemporary folk music to rock and jazz, creating a unique and personal musical identity. Georgia’s distinctive sound is evident throughout her recordings from her first album ‘At the edge of this world’ which has a purely Cretan folk sound, to ‘Secret love’ an album for the European market, to her new personal album that is presented now. Georgia Dagaki and her band give concerts all over World. These live performances transcend the boundaries of traditional music. Georgia sings and accompanies with her lyra not only favourite songs from her personal repertoire, but also inspired cover versions of songs by great Greek composers like Hatzidakis, Xarchakos, Moutsis, Savopoulos, Assimos, as well as Papakonstantinou, Zoudiaris, Pavlidis and many more. Georgia has collaborated with the legend of the rock scene, Eric Burdon with the participation in his album in four songs. On the summer of 2009 when Eric Burdon was reconnected with the Animals he invited Georgia Dagaki to join them on their tour. With their music they have traveled in 27 cities around the world. This gave Georgia the significant opportunity to give with her Cretan Lyra a color and tone of Greece to great songs of the rock scene like “The house of rising sun”, “Don’t let me be misunderstood”, “Mercy’s Hand” and “Give me the night”. Moreover she sings her own song “Full Moon” played by the Animals.
She collaborates also with many great musicians such as Nikos Xydakis, Vassilis Papakonstantinou, Orfeas Peridis, Vassilis Lekas, Yiannis Spathas, Yiannis Koutras, Goran Bregovic, Μanolis Lidakis etc.
Her personal album ‘Phobie’, by Monopol Records Berlin, was recently released in Greece and abroad.
