CD presentation Chica Morada – pianist Ward De Vleeschhouwer takes you on a journey to Peru. Ward De Vleeschhouwer is a pianist and composer. He performs solo and in chamber music ensembles (including Thelema Trio). He has performed at prestigious festivals and in renowned concert halls in Japan, Europe, the United States and South America. He has written compositions for piano and chamber ensembles (including Spectra Ensemble, Thelema Trio and Aranis) and for the theatre (including Toneelgroep Nunc and fABULEUS). In 2012 Ward wrote the soundtrack for the film Lucien Hervé, photographe malgré lui, directed by Gerrit Messiaen. The film was honoured at several international film festivals. In his creations he is primarily inspired and fascinated by folk music. Several of his works have been recorded and released (by HRDSCR Editions and Metropolis Music Publisher). For the recording of this CD he focused on Peru, for the following reason: 'I fell in love with Peru not only because of the rich taste of chicha morada (a purple corn drink) and the delicious food the country has to offer, but also because of its beautiful and diverse landscapes as well as its musical diversity, which cannot be reduced to one single genre. For this reason, and many more which I cannot describe in detail here, I wanted to demonstrate with this record my great love and appreciation for the culture and the people of Peru.' In this programme Ward's piano takes you on a journey through Peru and introduces you to several Peruvian composers and dances. The world famous El Condor Pasa, a zarzuela based on Peruvian folk dances, will also be included. Curious about the taste and music of Chicha Morada?
