Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune

Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, is a comedy following the tender journey of two lonely souls, Frankie and Johnny, a diner waitress and a short order cook, who meet for a night of fiery passion, expecting a return to loneliness. But as desire turns into the possibility of love, they realise that true connection means being unafraid to allow themselves to be seen for who they really are. Set against the backdrop of Debussy's hauntingly beautiful "Clair de Lune," this romantic, vibrant, and funny play explores the complexities of human connection, love, and vulnerability.

Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune will star Debra Baker in the role of Frankie and Alan Turkington in the role of Johnny.

Her Theatre credits include Orlando (Garrick Theatre, West End), This Might Not Be It (Bush Theatre), Glacier (Old Fire Station), among others. Alan Turkington’s TV credits include Dead Hot (Amazon Prime Video), Heartstopper (Netflix), AIDS: The Unheard Tapes (BBC), among others. His theatre credits includes Antony & Cleopatra (National Theatre), Hamlet (Donmar at Wyndham’s Theatre, Elsinore Castle and Broadhurst Theatre, Broadway), The Tempest, The Winter’s Tale and Pericles (Royal Shakespeare Company), and more.

The production will be directed by Robert Chevara, a highly acclaimed Berlin-based director who is returning to work with The Bridge Theatre for the second time, having directed Vincent River by Phillip Ridley in 2021. Chevara will be supported by set and costume designer Jess Curtis, lighting designer Jessie Addinall and sound designer Ioana Madrescu.

The mission of The Bridge Theatre is to connect the people of Brussels via the experience of culture, through a language that is spoken on a daily basis by many people in the city. The last language barometer conducted in 2018 by BRIO - Brussels’ Centre for Information, Documentation and Research determines that English is the second most common language in the Brussels-Capital Region, spoken by 35% of the city residents. BRIO’s new research is expected to be published later this month.

For this production, The Bridge Theatre has partnered with RESET, a multifaceted event venue located in the city centre of Brussels.

Frankie et Johnny, une serveuse de restaurant et un cuisinier, se rencontrent pour une nuit de passion ardente, s'attendant à un retour à la solitude. Mais quand le désir se transforme en possibilité d’amour, ils réalisent qu’une véritable connexion signifie ne plus avoir peur de montrer qui ils sont réellement. La production sera mise en scène par Robert Chevara, un metteur en scène berlinois très acclamé qui revient travailler avec The Bridge Theatre pour la deuxième fois, après avoir mis en scène Vincent River de Phillip Ridley en 2021. Chevara sera épaulé par Jess Curtis, concepteur des décors et des costumes, Jessie Addinall, concepteur des éclairages, et Ioana Madrescu, concepteur du son.

La mission du Théâtre du Pont est de relier les Bruxellois par l'expérience de la culture, à travers une langue qui est parlée au quotidien par de nombreux habitants de la ville. Le dernier baromètre linguistique réalisé en 2018 par BRIO - Centre d'information, de documentation et de recherche de Bruxelles détermine que l'anglais est la deuxième langue la plus répandue dans la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale, parlée par 35 % des habitants de la ville. La nouvelle étude de BRIO devrait être publiée dans le courant du mois.

Pour cette production, The Bridge Theatre s'est associé à RESET, un lieu d'événements à multiples facettes situé dans le centre de Bruxelles.

De productie wordt geregisseerd door Robert Chevara, een veelgeprezen regisseur uit Berlijn die voor de tweede keer samenwerkt met The Bridge Theatre, nadat hij in 2021 Vincent River van Phillip Ridley regisseerde.
